Become a Friend of St Paul’s Church
The parish church of St Paul has been a distinctive landmark in our local landscape since 1856, serving Molesey’s growing population. As well as being an active place of worship for over 150 years, this Grade II listed building has a whole range of historic features including the East Window pictured below, and a magnificent spire which can be seen from surrounding areas. We remain independent of the other Anglican churches in Molesey but we are by far the smallest both geographically and by population.
Our doors are kept open during the day so that many can drop in and benefit from the rest and quiet on offer in beautiful surroundings. Through comments left in our prayer diary and other feedback, we recognise that the church’s reach is very wide and much sought after. Aside from our regular services the church is always there for significant family events such as weddings, funerals and baptisms, and the building is used for many community events – Open Gardens teas, Remembrance parades, concerts, exhibitions on historical Molesey and coffee mornings. The parish room is available for hire and is used for a variety of activities from ballet to keep fit, from board games to stamp collectors, from craft sessions to children’s parties and preschool groups.
ST PAUL’S NEEDS YOUR HELP
Caring for a landmark building is an expensive undertaking and we need to seek donations to maintain our beautiful building. The church receives virtually no funding from the Church of England, the Government or any other public body. The cost of upkeep is at least £10,000 pa, and falls on our church community and a small number of generous givers. We are deeply appreciative of the donations made by current Friends who in the past have helped to maintain a healthy building fund. This however has now been depleted but the ongoing needs for repair and maintenance continue and are evermore costly. That is why we are looking for people to join the Friends of St Paul’s and help ensure that it remains open and available to all our community for years to come. You do not need to be a churchgoer to become a Friend – many people who are not regular worshippers still regard St Paul’s as ‘their church’ – but you will help ensure that the church is there when you might need it.

BECOME A FRIEND
You can help by becoming a Friend of St Paul’s or by making one off gifts. Every donation is important to us, whatever the amount, and will help to secure the future of St Paul’s Church. The funds donated by Friends will be ring-fenced to maintain the fabric of the church and hall buildings, their contents and surrounds. Your contribution will not be used for worship or related costs. Regular churchgoers will continue to bear the full costs of our day to day operation and ministry. The fund will be administered by St Paul’s Church PCC and subject to Charity Commission regulations. As a Friend you will receive invitations to special fundraising events and regular updates on the church and its activities.
